Pursuit of Knowledge to Attain Greater Success

Translated from Berita Harian article by Nur Fathin Awalludin, published on 17 May 2021

She has more than 15 years of working experience in the tourism and social industry, leading large-scale international projects. However, this did not deter Ms Supatriana Supaat from wanting to pursue greater success. Her passion to pursue lifelong learning and acquire new knowledge has motivated her to take up her Masters degree. The founder of Livconsciously Pte Ltd has recently completed her studies in the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) with a Masters in Community Leadership and Social Development.

In her email interview with Berita Harian, Ms Supatriana, 44 years old, shared that her career started in the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and followed by Bintan Resorts International (BRI), Sentosa Leisure Group and The Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF). During her six years stint in the STB, she was responsible for key regional projects like the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF), the Malaysia-Singapore Tourism Cooperation (MSTC) and the Indonesia-Malaysia-Singapore Growth Triangle (IMSGT). She was then posted to the STB Regional Office in Kuala Lumpur where she was responsible for the Business Travel and Meetings, Incentive Travel, Conventions and Exhibitions (BTMICE) and Central Malaysia visitor segments.

After many years of creating commercial returns, Ms Supatriana wanted to give back to the society and joined MSF. There, among other roles, she worked on providing support for remarriages and stepfamilies through partnership with one of the Malay Muslim bodies in Singapore. “I stayed long in the corporate sector as it has provided me many opportunities to learn, grow and contribute. My work experience in these organizations have built up my skills in project management, partnership and marketing. However, I recently left the corporate world as I wanted to start something of my own and create an impact directly within the community,” said Ms Supatriana who has been married for 12 years without kids.

The Masters programme in SUSS has given her the opportunity to learn skills and knowledge on the multi-disciplinary understanding of issues and challenges in the practice of community leadership like social capital and sustainable social development, she said. In October last year, Ms Supatriana also launched her business Livconsciously Pte Ltd, which is a platform to discover and support initiatives that create social impact. “The key aim is to nurture a society of conscious consumers and producers who protect the environment and vulnerable communities,” she said. A lot that she has learnt in SUSS has helped her in managing her business and building partnerships with other aligned individuals and businesses.
